After about 30 min of pushing the convertor temp gauge starts creeping up to hot. Press on dash shows good and machine doesnt feel like its slipping. Let it idol for about 2 -3 min and the temp drops off. As soon as you start moving the temp swings back up.. Very Hard to get any work done. Any help would be great...
The fact that it is cooling down when idling would indicate that the cooling system is working ........ Generally when an overheating problem is present, the first thing to do is check that the radiator is clear of any obstruction, ie - grass, dirt, grease, oil etc. Give it a really good clean preferably with a fire hose if available & be sure it is totally dry before going back to work in any dust as this will only begin to block it again. The amount of air the fan pushes is also important. (I'm asuming the fan is pushing air & not pulling). Sometimes on an older machine the blades get thin with use & begin to even lose the curve shape they have when new. This affects the efficiency of the cooling system. there should be a shroud around the fan to control the air flow to the radiator. If you have already cleaned the radiator & there is large amounts of air being pushed by the fan, you are going to have to check some convertor pressures. I have seen overheating problems with 850's & 1150's (similar system) when there is a loss of oil flow at the convertor,(internal leakage) - they still perform reasonably well, but they won't send enough oil to the cooler to keep the temp down.
When was it last serviced? is there
