Hello Guys, .................any lnternational TD 25 veterans out there? lm looking at buying one (70s) for a project lt will be used for the partial clearing 25-30 year old williow brush, small trees etc from a 160 acre lot and constucting around 3-4km of road. After that it will become a big boy toy. l was wondering on what the approx fuel consumption is per hour on these, l know its a alot and a broad question, i just want a rough idea. Cheers all
TD-25C working in a quarry will be use 100-125 gallons in 8-10 hours when pushing and ripping steady. It is a good solid tractor with good power. Roughly equal to a 46A in weight and power. The 2 speed steering and tilt dozer makes it very maneuverable under load. Getting hard to find parts for tho.
Yeah there about the size of a D8, good power, kind of an overkill for small brush,we used a few of them back in the 70's in the uranium mines but we mostly ran D9's.
Depends on the engine and how hard you run it and the condition its in,the kta 1150 is a beast turned down at around 345hp can blow some coal out the pipe at around 12 gal a hr.
Oh yea 2speed steering cant beat that, and like anything else they will use some fuel. Got rid of all the big stuff years ago but I kept the TD 15 and last time I bought a part for it it said Komotso on the box. And now I think Case has something to to with IH / Dresser Dresta , good luck you will like it.
Not sure if you picked up A td25 if you did and need a blade I have a 18' rockland u blade for one that's like new,it would make short work of that brush, 160 acre lot will take some time to clear, with a std blade.
Running a td 20 now. v-8 international engine will use 100 gallons in about 10 hrs. pushes good in hard dirt but parts are hard to find and expensive. I need the y manifold going into the turbo and the cheapest I have found new is $600. Prices ranged from 600 to 970. Also keep in mind if it will ever be moved, you will be overweight. Check on permits in your state and it takes a triple axle trailer and a healthy semi to move it. Good luck, Jay
Dresser/IH TD-25 Dozers The TD-25E & G's are a powerful crawler dozer. These large dozers can be bought at a discount because they can be difficult to move. But they have their drawbacks. The E's and G's have inboard planetaries drives which make them difficult to work on if there is a problem. I believe they finally went to the out board planetaries with the H models. The engines and transmissions do not last as long on these bigger crawlers. Most transmissions have to be resealed and the engines rebuilt at 6000-8000 hours. The parts and service work to maintain and fix these large crawlers can be very expensive. Even though your initial investment may be low, your operating cost can be much higher. Our thoughts are that the TD-25'c can be a real money pit. I believe the TD-20G is a lot better dozer and more cost effective to operate for most contractors. It has the outboard planetary drives, plenty of horsepower (225) with the L10, and planetary 2 speed steering. The Td-20E has a very similiar machine, except with the IH V800 motor, which is a big step down from the L10 Cummins. It is common to get 9-10 hours on the transmissions and engines. The TD-20G is a real money maker.
clansing1 that td 20 sounds like a strong unit 9-10 hr on the engine and trans ,Must be a misprint lol. The hr you have on the td25g for a rebuild too!,6000 to 8000 hr. I loged 32,000 thousand on my last kta1150 and currently have 23,000 thousand hr on my current kta1150!! That's not a misprint, it is turned down to a mild 345hp.just fired her up after a long winter nap no eather!,not bad.not sure how that td20 is a real money maker if its even close to the hrs you are getting and 225 HP,must be a misprint lol...
I recently bought a 25C and it's a beast. With the ripper and standard blade it weighed 81,000.
81,000 lb does it have a cab? That c model should have the dt-817-b or the 817-c depending on the machine, and HP 313 to338! Not bad, but I still love that kta1150. Have you ran it much yet? We are still waiting for spring brakeup, mud and road restrictions to go away. Could you haul it with the blade on? Std blade 13-3 13-6?
No cab, just the canopy. We hauled it with the blade on, but its way out in the country from one farm to another. I havent ran it much yet, but I do know 1st gear in reverse slips. Any thoughts on that? Should be in the trans, not the planetary right?
Is it slipping in low reverse,or hi reverse?
Low reverse
If it slips in low then it should slip more in hi, what does the trans pressure gauge do when shifting? If it only slips in 1st reverse not 2,3 then its the 1st gear clutch pack in the trans.does it also slip in 2,3 reverse? if so i would suggest taking some pressures at the test ports.

TD 25C Clutch problems Does anyone have any info on problems why a 25C starts and pushes fine for maybe an hour, then the clutch temp gauge go up very quickly and the machine literally stops.? all else seems fine, changed oil, any idea ? thanks
What do you mean by stops? as in engine, or stops like brakes are applied or stops pushing like trans is slipping.
Stops, like the clutch was slipping, I assume that is why the clutch temperature gauge goes up, usually very quickly, after pushing very well for some time. I believe the clutch is held in with hyd pressure ? can this be lacking some how ? we had a professional Komatsu shop go over it, thought it may be the control valve for the clutch, cleaned it and checked it out, claimed sometimes dirt can stick it open, or restrict the flow to hold pressure on clutch, but that did not do the trick, everything else on the machine works fine, but dont want to put a fortune into it, thanks
Does it have a clutch pressure gauge in the dash? If so what does it do when trans slips? Does it slip in 1st 2nd or 3rd?
It sounds like the hook ring seal for the clutch pack has broken. It will only leak a little until the oil temp gets up and then it will leak a lot.
How can i ck for this, there is no visible sign of oil leaking, should the service mechanic be alble to see this ? is this a major job to get at the seal ?
The hook rings are the rotating seals that hold oil in place to expand the pistons to engage the clutch packs. You have to pull the transmission and tear it down to get access to the seals. You need to get some gauges to confirm the problem. All the prior comments here talking about a gauge on the dash panel are spot on. If the seal is leaking, the pressure will not come up on the gauge and the clutch pack will spin partially engaged creating more heat and then warping the frictions and steels in the pack. You need to stop running the machine and find and fix this problem right away. Good Luck!
There are three clutch packs in the trans one for 1st,2nd,3rd before you take the trans out and disassemble it, make sure its not slipping in all three speeds, the problem will not be in the clutch packs if so. as stated in past post if the seals are leaking pressure will not build to apply clutch fully, that normaly will only accrue in one pack, it may be 1st,2nd,or 3rd. not in all three speeds. check pressures for each clutch to be sure. Hope this helps!
As I recall there are five packs including one each for forward and reverse. If the forward pack is slipping then all the forward speeds will also be slipping. At any rate all the info here is correct.
Check the scavenge pump in the bottom of the torque convertor housing. If the oil level goes too high, the oil temp will run high and the engine will bog.
Hi Do the basics first 1st check is the suction filter under the floor boards with a heavy ali outer case and a washable screen inside this filter will tell you every thing that is going on inside your trans make sure the oring seal is good when you reasemble . next change the pressure filter - heavy steel case and a paper filter inside cut it open and check for metal or bronze or copper looking pieces then plug some gauges in and check converter pressure - main trans pressure & lube pressure. By now you should know what is going on .I dont think the packs are slipping (they dont last long doing that) regards Malcolm
And now I think Case has something to to with IH / Dresser Dresta , good luck you will like it.[/QUOTE] Just FYI. Case has nothing to do with Dresser or Dressta. The world's largest manufacturer of wheel loaders, LiuGong in China, just bought the HSW, Dressta division. Guess we will see where it goes from here.
I agree start with the basic checks, one could very well have all the forward speeds slip, the low and hi range clutch packs are not in the trans they are in the steering drive system separate from the trans,if they are not slipping, you could very well have 1,2,3 slip.waterwman1,needs to do some checks and give some feed back, for further speculation. thanks and good testing.
Thanks guys for all the info, looks like this machine is going to be recycled !. I am not looking for a major job, here are a few of the tests that the Komatsu dealer has done. first, installed a pressure tap in the converter inlet, low, 28 psi, run got hot, dropped to 5 psi, removed main regulator valve, took to shop and cleaned and replaced springs and gaskets, reinstalled. removed and replaced torque suction strainer, chked press, main 220 at converter 105. ran machine, when it heated up in about one hr, same thing. I am by no means a mechanic, but the diagnosis of the o rings that hold pressure on the clutch cyl in the transmission seems very likely, does anybody have any thoughts on adding brake fluid to the oil ? swell O rings and get a few weeks out of the old girl before sending to the iron mill ?
the converter inlet pressure in neutral should be 85-110 psi,in gear 80 to 100,converter main 260to280, forward 0-10,reverse 0-10,first15-25,second 15-25,third 15-25, looks like low converter inlet pressure, caused by converter 1 internal leak,2 main regulating valve leaking,3 bad pump,4 regulator valve stuck,5 pilot valve leaking. could be any one, brake fluid in to soften seals if they are hard and brittle probably won't do much if anything,if its going to scrap fill it up you have nothing to loose,if it was a 25g I would be interested.good luck...
