I have a gray market 955 K and it needs a new lower end serial # is 71J2203 the motor is a combo of D330C and 3304. When buying parts from cat about half are for71J and the other is for 85J. It is a turbo PC head. the turbo is 85J the injection system is sleeve metering, the imprinted engine serial make no sense it is 7j4392. Can I replace the block (it's cracked) with a 7N5454 if not then what do I need to find.

Could that 7J prefix be a 7Z? That would make it a 43V 3304 sleeve metering engine.

To clarify, this is not a grey market machine. It is simply a Japanese-built version of the US-built 85J (and the French-built 64J for that matter) that were all sold worldwide. So any one of the three machine prefixes can pop up anywhere in the World. An early 71J machine (S/N below 71J4557) such as yours is the equivalent of a US machine up to 85J6246 or French 64H5182. This is provided the engine is original . Can you post some photos of the engine, especially the S/N plate and the injection pump to assist with identification. We've been here before with this same tractor. HeavyEquipmentForums HeavyEquipmentForums Do you have a 71J Parts Manual.? By the Serial Number you need UMX00085 but if the engine is really a 3304 then you would need XMBP9568 that covers machine swith that engine. They are still available but I cant see any used ones at the moment.

And to answer your question regarding the cylinder block, 7N-5454 is an earlier Part Number that was replaced by 1N-3574. This is a very commonly used 4-cylinder block from machines of that era. It's listed as being used in loads of models from Articulated Trucks to Wheel Loaders. A search threw up almost 200 results for 1N-3574.

I found a copy of the Parts Manual for the later 71J machine with the 3304 engine. See this link on eBay .
