Looking for year and engine identification on a 955k sn 71j1435. Any help appreciated.
A 1970 machine made in Japan with a D330T engine 115 horse power. During the 1973 model year the 3304 engine came into play. FWD
So would it be a d330 or d330c?
It should be the 4.75" bore D330C, because the 4.75" bore engine range was released in 1969. However, to be sure (because after 53 years, it could've had more engine changes than you can count on one hand), find the casting part number on the side of the block and let us know what the number is. The D330C became the 3304 when Cat started introducing engine arrangement numbers and separate engine serial numbers around 1973. Your tractor should have the same engine number as the tractor serial number.
This unit has the same sn number as the machine. Is safe to assume the engine is a d330c?
Yes.
Did you acquire the engine block casting part number (it's in big letters) off the side of the block? I have the Cat NPR (Numerical Parts Record) on microfiche from before WW2 up to about 1989, and searching the NPR with your block casting part number will give us a lot of information about the engine fit.
