That's an easy one. Track down the wiring to the gadget that engages 4wd. Pull the wire off. Try to engage 4wd. Fuse intact? It's the 4wd gadget. Use a jumper from the +battery terminal thru a 10 amp circuit breaker to the terminal on the 4wd gadget, if it clicks like a turn signal, it's a dead short in the 4wd gadget. Repair/replace the gadget Fuse blows? Now you have to go thru the harness and find the worn insulation/dead short that's blowing the fuse. A service manual with the wiring diagram is realllllly nice to have. For those situations where something else is on the same fuse. Think of it in terms of putting the headlights on, fuse blows. It's either the headlights are pulling too much current, or the wiring is shorting out and blowing the fuse. You want anguish? Try fixing it when it only blows the fuse every couple of weeks..... This is based on a "normal" electrical system. Your beast being a Fiat, that's not "normal". They could have relays, tripping relays, tripping relays. If that's what you have, get the manual.

Unplug the harness at the 4WD solenoid and see if the fuse still blows. If it does the wireing harness may be chaffed where it runs from the switch down the right of the platform. There was a service update for harness chaffing problems on these machines several years after their production run and many were never updated because of changing hands and no way to track them down. I once had serial numbers for 7 machines needed updated but was only able to track down 3. The last 4 having been traded off or sold to other owners. Good luck.

On ours it was not the 4WD, but the rotating beacon on the roof, they are on the same fuse
