Another Komatsu PC27 Question

Machine engine is bogging down when a load is placed on hydraulics. Will almost stall when raising the boom with full bucket or when curling bucket in dirt. Pump or valve?

    Fuel filter, air filter?

  2. #2JTWAT2019-01-27 23:08

Both are new. Also changed hydraulic filter and oil.

Check for blocked fuel line . May have a inline filter clogged .

Check all the usual suspects on the engine before anything else. Air filter, fuel strainer and filter. Let us know if the machine still has problems after that.

Pump, pc regler needs to be adjusted, on the right side of the pump towards the front, there is a small block with a Allen screw it should be a 5 Allen key (metric) counter lock with metric wrench 13, adjust screw 1/8 out, counter clock wise, then try a function with full gas

Turning screws on a pump adjustment before checking engine problems is a real money maker for equipment dealers.

Yeah check pressures before messing with pressure compensator...

  8. #8JTWAT2019-01-31 21:23

I got a set of gauges and the pump pressure is low. When a work tool is used to full extension the pressure goes up.

  9. #9rondig2019-01-31 21:52

That is normal....pressure goes up.with amount of energy required. Maxing out rams or tracks will send pressure to.max relief pressure. Anything in between will be variable. If you have a problem it will probably be in the pilot control circuit. Which is a low pressure circuit....do not adjust anything on stroke limiter or pc....sounds like you might need a mechanic....these piston pump systems can get VERY expensive if you mess with them the wrong way.

Just a quick primer on using gauges and checking hydraulic systems. First it makes a difference where you plug your gauges into. Next item is the machine is supposed to be doing something when you record the pressure that you can see on the gauge. Third item is you need a specification for the pressure in the hydraulic system when you are doing the operation. For instance when you extend the arm out all the way and hold it against the end so the pump goes over relief, you should see approximately 3,550 PSI of pressure on the gauge. It should be the same for the bucket, boom and travel. The blade should read about 3,000 PSI while the swing would be around 2,600.

Thanks, I have a shop manual for it and was not sure what the pressures should be. I think I will call and find out what it will cost to get it looked at.

When its cold the pump makes noise as work is done. Quiet in neutral position. After warming up the engine will slow and pump still makes noise.

  13. #13TVA2019-02-19 19:22

What kind of a noise? High pitched?

  14. #14DK882019-02-19 21:06

just from experience with komatsu mini's i would suggest pulling the pump and taking it to a good hyd shop. sounds like the swash plate and pivot balls have galled up.

….and check the condition of your pump suction hoses. Look for loose clamps, cracks, leaks.

I can feel the vibration of the noise in the high pressure hose exiting the pump.
