April 13 Deadline to Apply For $300 Million Stimulus to Clean Diesel Exhaust

CEwriter · 2009-03-20 09:59

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 sets aside as much as $300 million to help fleet owners clean up diesel exhaust. The $789 billion economic stimulus package includes funding for the Environmental Protection Agency’s national clean diesel campaign, a large part of which takes the form of grants to equipment owners who want to install emissions-reduction devices, repower vehicles with lower-emissions engines, or replace machines. The grants must be awarded quickly. The first deadlines for applications is April 13, 2009. This grant funding is particularly important for equipment fleets working in EPA non-attainment areas for particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) because many of these areas will likely enact in-use diesel regulations much like California’s to accelerate the retirement of older diesel engines. Regional grant competitions administered by EPA’s regional Clean Diesel Collaboratives will distribute $156 million. Projects awarded in May should be implemented by September 30, 2010 See the whole story with all of the links -- including the Recovery-Act-Funding page on EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign site. Hope this is useful, Larry

Wonder if they will give me a big grant for a 2008 DuraMax? Maybe I can get rid of the "burn" cycle, or at least recapture some of the extra fuel cost that cycle uses.

We still don't have the technology. CEwriter Thanks for the heads up but. I know of NO manufactures at this time that have a particulate filter that will work on tier 0 and it is in question tier 1 and 2 will comply with a particulate filter. The sum of $300 Million is just a drop in the bucket anyhow. If you could get a count on all equipment in service made before 2002-03 and multiply this by $10,000 to $75,000 dollars you kind get what kind of funding that would be needed. We are talking Billions and some of this equipment is not used on a regular basis.
