Does anyone know what the difference between a TU FLO 550 and a TU FLOW 750 air compressor is, aside from cfm? Mines not building air, and the head got damn hot. Of course the ID plate is missing. It's on a '98 Pete 378 with a 3406 Cat.

I'd say the valves in the head are shot, or the air governor is busted or stuck. New air governors are cheap. Compressors are expensive. If your compressor shrapnels your engine, it will be very expensive. Check the governor first, then pull the exhaust manifold off and check the valves. You can rebuild either one or both yourself, but it's faster and probably better to exchange them. You also get a warranty. Don't hesitate, a damaged compressor is like a ticking time bomb. Good Luck!
