horton fan clutch bearings--- first pic is both brgs. as seen from either end of the hub.second is rear brg. turned over. third is both turned over. mystery is where did the missing balls go they were not in the hub and not enough debri for them to have disintegrated have not ran across this kind of mess before that had not ca me apart or did not wobble or make any noise
I think I see nine balls in each bearing. Just lost the cage on the one.
so there`s only supposed to be 9 balls in there ?
fooled me . time for a rebuild in any case
Yep only 9, if you look at the retainer in the one picture you can see the "pockets" for the balls. See picture below where I have numbered them:
As bearing manufacturing has “progressed” I’ve noticed the spaces in between have gotten bigger.
thats what made me think some were missing
If one is interested here is a technical paper that explains some of the design criteria of ball bearings: http://www.sdp-si.com/Design-Data/Ball-Bearings.php
Pete, does this fan hub have a third bearing in the nose? that may just be a spacer. Hard to tell with the grease in the pics.
rz it has 2 spaced bearings in the hub, the spacer is shown in the pic. that was the very rear brg.that gave up-----the rebuild kit got here about dark
Just curious.
did`nt look at the o h kit yet to see if it has 2 spaced front brgs, or the long single one
all back together and back on the motor and only one skinned knuckle
Only one skinned knuckle..... you're doing something wrong!!!!
Especially if the fan was still in the shroud.
it was
