Bobcat 442 coupler?

Orest Anhel · 2025-06-20 17:40

Looking at buying an 07 Bobcat 442 75 size excavator. Does anyone here know what kind of coupler it uses for bucket attachment and is it common to any other machines?

Looks like the kind you have to get out of the machine to swap buckets. How inconvenient!

That’s a wedge coupler. Really common here in logging/mining industries in BC, used for many years now…. I like them personally as they engage the bucket tightly with no slop; and the wedge design accounts for wear. Also (unlike pin grabbers) you do not loose bucket breakout force… Yes, you do have to exit machine to change buckets! (lol) takes about 2/3 minutes. We only change buckets at most 2/3 times a day, so works out just fine. For residential use etc. a hydraulic pin grabber might be a lot better. We have a Deere 50d with a one bolt wedge coupler and a 21 ton with a ‘standard’ 2 bolt WBM style coupler. We did own a Cat 304 with pin grabber, but found the buckets really ‘flopped’ around (this was a low hour machine). A lot of play…. I suspect that 442 however has a ‘proprietary’ wedge set up. Not sure if other branded buckets would interchange… Dease lake, nice country! Spent 7 seasons in the Toodoggone (just east a bit…) Good luck!

Wedge in photo shouldn’t be set crooked like that..maybe they just didn’t tighten up bolts?

    Do those 442's come with a 455 HO and a 4 Speed?
