My husband purchased a Case 1830 skidsteer used on ebay from a guy in Wisconsin. Unfortunately we don't know what he did to it. He showed pictured of the bucket in the air reaching out and dumping but from the day we bought it we haven't seen this, we had to drag the bucket onto the trailer backwards because it wouldn't lift at all. We have had to replace 7 hydraulic hoses and rebuild the bucket hydraulic cylinders. We have replaced all they filters, oil, and hydraulic fluids. An electrical engineer has re-wired the whole thing. It was so full of oil, hydraulic fluid, corn husks, and other unidentifiable items that my husband took 3-5 gal buckets of stuff out of it and has pressure washed it 5 times. He also replaced the hydraulic valve thinking that may be bad. He can now lift the bucket from the ground into the air and it comes to park and stops. That is mainly straight up. He can't scoop on the ground or dump in the air. He also tightened both hand controls because the were so sloppy. Can anyone please help?
You're speaking about two different hydraulic circuits. One lifts the arms and another "dumps" the bucket. Since the arms lift, you have system hydraulic pressure and flow. Simply trace the dump circuit. it's either the valve or the cylinder. A tee with appropriate fittings and pressure gauge is very helpful.
Might be a far fetched idea but is it possible that when replacing the 7 hoses two got crossed so now when one cylinder is trying to dump the bucket the other is trying to roll bucket back? Would have to think on that one some but maybe that could explain the problem.
kshansen: That is what we were thinking since the valve has already been changed and we get the same reaction. If you come up with something, could you please let me know. Sorry..we are new to this. We have a case 1816b but blew the engine on it.
Kshansen … You definitely have a valuable suggestion. The Case 1830 does have two dump cylinders. I was thinking about the Deere BH design with a single cylinder.
Should be easy to figure out the lines as only two com from the valve to the front of the machine. Hoses with 90º crimped on fittings on one end both go to the "upper" end of the tilt cylinders. Hoses with straight swivels on both ends go to the lower "rod end" of the cylinders. I feel that this is another one of those machines that if most of those on this site could see in person for five minutes the problem would jump right out at us! Hope we can work through this one and get it working before any more money is spent. Not to sound critical but I have to wonder about the statement that to load it the bucket had to be drug to get it on the trailer. Was the seller not there when machine was picked up? If so why would someone take possession of non-working machine unless the problem was understood up front? Again I'm sure there is a good explanation but not knowing the full story does bring up these kind of questions for me and I suspect a few others. A thought just came to mind, any chance of someone making a video of the machine while it is being operated to see and hear what it sounds like and post a link to say a YouTube address for the video? As I said not being there to see exactly what is happening makes diagnosis very difficult.
Here is a video of the bucket tilt operation, or lack there-of.
I'm no pro but something looks like it's crossed up to me
After reviewing the hydraulic schematics we discovered that two of the lines were swapped the wrong direction. After swapping them we now have the same problem except for in reverse. The bucket now dumps as the boom it lifted. Following is two videos, one from the side and one from the front so that you may observe the lift from multiple POV.
Gotta boom line crossed with a curl cyl? Possibly a control valve leaking, internally could do it, too... Just a WAG, on my part...
So far unless I mistaken the operator is moving both controls at the same time... everytime. left hand tilt should move the arms up/down and right hand lever should work the tilt on the bucket... or have you tried this and then nothing happens? I'm just curious because the videos do not show any actions like this. and it would be nice to see exactly what the machine does and sounds like when just a single control is used and held. The reason the other lines were crossed was probably a personal preference of the previous operator... not necessarily wrong connections. One other thing in case I am way off in the above posting... does your machine have an auxiliary hydraulic control on the floor or elsewhere that might be jammed on?
Ronsil, I was thinking that I was seeing that same thing with the controls!
CAN'T MOVE THE CONTROLS INDPENDENTLY FROZEN OR TIED TOGETHER. YOU ALL MAY HAVE FOUND THE PROBLEM.NOW I NEED TO FIND THE FIX.
See this is one of the times I was talking about back in post #6. Anyone even slightly familiar with a machine like this would have noticed the problem in the fist couple of seconds in the operators seat! Here is the drawing of the linkage for the boom and bucket controls. If both levers are moving at the same time the problem would most likely be in the area circled in red. May have to remove the complete assembly to free up and lube everything. Also replace any worn or sloppy rod ends while it's a part it will make operating machine much easier!
We found the answer. the bearings on the ends of the rod were tied up. Used some PB Blaster on them and then greased the Bell Crank. Works great now. Looking for a new carburetor for it. Got any ideas what is on this unit. I am told it is a Solex 32 on a Renault (Continental) engine. Looking to buy another one.
You might try a rebuild kit for your carburetor. The OEM prices are probably pretty big money. If it runs now, maybe a good cleaning and a kit will make it run better. SimS
Glad you found the hydraulic linkage problem, can not help on the carb. Sounds like time to do some google searches or try contacting the dealer to see if they are of any help.
