My 450 is not charging. does any one know how to check the charging system ? Or possibly have a service manual pfd/hardcopy? Or a non scam place to get one?
My guess is you have three wires on the ALT, Main which goes direct to starter post or positive battery, then two smaller wires. The two smaller wires go to 12V sources, one which has 12V all the time and the other will have 12V when the key/lever is turned to RUN or ON. Take a volt meter and check for voltage
Will look tonight when i get home to see how many wires, i thought it has a generator not an alt
Take the generator off and put an alternator on it. Unless you want it authentic, then find a generator wiring diagram that matches what you have.
Most likely generator and will have a regulator that if it died the generator is most likely the cause. Could be bad connections but not usually on these. As noted if put a Alternator on it if the regulator and generator are bad, eliminate the wiring to the regulator.
He may have either an alternator or generator depending on the age of the dozer. Born2ride; If you do have a generator , simplify the problem and put a one wire Delco alternator with a self-exciting regulator on it. If it doesn't have the self-exciting regulator it won't charge when the engine is idling. Should be doable for about $60.00.
i was contemplating swapping AC Delco alternator and then mock up some brackets,
anything on a 450 before 7/68 is a generator, anything after 7/68 is alternator, I can send you a service manual if you need one, have a serial number by chance? and if you need any case parts I can help you with those aswell
What do you have for case parts? new oem or aftermarket , used?
Case 450 Track Rollers Anyone know where to purchase lower track roller assemblies or roller castings for the older serial number break Case 450 (plain) dozers? Is there a way to determine your serial number or dozer year made, of one of these old Case 450 dozers, if you can not locate the serial number, or it is pitted so bad that you couldn't read it if you found it on the frame somewhere? Maybe cross reference some part number off of it you can still find. Thanks in advance for nay help from you guys. Desperate to find some rollers for mine!
