I recently purchased a Case 480E and have a question about a linkage attached to the bucket. The linkage goes back along the right loader arm and thru a series of bellcranks appears to have once been connected to the loader hydraulic valves. At some point it appears to have got bent up and the linkage has been disconnected just outside the cab. My operators manual makes no mention of this system. Was it some sort of automatic bucket leveling system? If so, how did it work? All my manual mentions is the rod within a tube system to let you know when the bucket was sitting flat on the ground. Thanks for any help!
I'm far from an expert but what your describing sounds like the antirollback linkage, which does just what you suspect. It levels the bucket automatically when lifted so as not to dump whatever is in the bucket on the hood.... or worse. Its a feature that good to have working. Good luck with your 480E!
It is the anti-rollback linkage. Here is what it should look like if all the parts are there. For your safety and any one else running it, please repair it.
