broke a piece off of my shuttle box. Took it out and had it welded up. Trying to put the shuttle box back in and it won't line up. is there a trick to getting everything lined back up. the shuttle box will not line up with the torque converter. It likes about 1 inch of going in. any suggestions.

Welcome to HEF, Cecil !! The tabs on the convertor hub most likely are not lining up with the trans input shaft. Do not force them together or bad things will happen. Now is a good time to check the flex plate for cracks.

Back the Shuttle out some. Then spin the Torque converter till it slides aft into the shuttle and locks into the the pump in the Shuttle. The Torque converter has to a line with the pump. Its about 3/4". You'll know when it slides in. I use a piece of bent metal bolted to the pan to hold the torque converter in to the pump. After its in I pull the metal and finish up. Wish I had a phot to help.

I have always unbolted the torque convertor from the flex plate when removing a shuttle. There is almost zero chance of damaging the oil seal between the two when rejoining them. And a careful look at the flex plate is possible. A transmission jack is handier than a shirt pocket for a lot of tasks other than removing transmissions. It makes R&R front weights on T/L/B's super easy and safe.
