Changing the filters seems a little straight forward, but after reading some of these post about machines not starting after filter changes, has me concerned. Anything I need to worry about by changing these filters on the 580c? Thanks
Have enough fuel in your tank, must be higher than the bleeder screw at the top of the filter, or you will need air pressure to bleed it.
So do you just install the filter then push in the fuel shut off (fuel on), crack the bleeder on the filter, and shut the bleeder once fuel comes out?
If you are refering to the fuel rod on the dash, that does not shut off fuel to the filter. Follow the line from the filter back to the tank. There is a wingnut style valve on the bottom of the tank. Close it to change the filter then open to bleed at the filter and run the engine. There is also another petcock on a sediment chamber farther back on the bottom of the tank. Open it momentaraily every now and then to drain out any water condensation from the tank. If its cold out, nothing will come out b/c the water is frozen. I had do give mine a jab with a small wire and the petcock all the way out to clear some sediment. If you have to do this, be ready to put the petcock back in (the fuel comes out in a hurry especially with a full tank!) There is also a screen at the inlet pipe to the injection pump connection. I took mine out by unscrewing the line from the pump, loosning the outlet from the filter to fiddle the line out of the way and then unscrewing the screen from the pump. After reassembling, opened the tank outlet, bled at filters, then cracked the line loose at the pump to get fuel all the way tp the pump. Started the engine and checked for leake- good to go!
Great explanation jackleg! Thank you! Even my ADD brain can follow that Really good tips/info.
