Hi, this old tractor has leaking PS cyls, I had a guy work on them a few yrs ago but they still leaked afterwards. Are they worth working on or having a shop do it? If not is there a decent replacement anyone knows of? Thanks
Seals are cheap and the cyls are not heavy. Two nut, two lines and some hyd fluid. I rebuilt mine on a slow weekend. I used grease to lube the seals and they holding up fine. Take a quick look at the rods fully extended each way right and left for any scoring on the cyls... If you do take them to a shop. Just my two cents but I hate paying people for things I can do.
i just have doubts about them as they still leaked after they had been worked on by this guy but maybe he didnt do a very good job? but yeah, i'm not worried about attempting it myself. thanks
Did he put the seals in backwards?
i'll take one apart & consult manual today. i would like to refurbish them
it appears the gland lip seals were installed backwards. manual says "lip faces OUTWARD" & as far as i can tell they faced inwards
i recv'd new seals, does this appear to be the correct sequence? Anyone know? It i s slightly ambiguous
Do you have the service manual for your machine ? Click on the image with your curser to enlarge it. From the service manual.↓
Open part of a U seal faces the oil pressure. The wiper is the part that wipes the dirt off the rod, that faces out. pic #6 looks correct, i can't see the lip on pics #7+8
o.k.Thanks, i think i have them lined up correctly except 1 more steel washer over the outer lip of the gland/wiper seal & i have that installed now & it all fits together. Just waiting 4 the new paint 2 dry. BTW, this is the older cylinders with 3 screws in front & i do have the manual but the imagery is quite vague along with the new parts are somewhat different. Thanks!
