Need som help regarding a Case 580F -80 that wont start after sitting for a year. Biggest problem is, its located 70 miles from here and the seller dont have the time to fix it. I need as much info as possible before I visit him, and try to get this backhoe running again So.. the info he gave me was no fuel at the injectors. Also the stop lever "fuel shut-off" feels "loose". Read here that the lever inside the injector pump can be jammed. Where on the pump is this lever located? Any pics..? Think its a "219" engine but not sure Thanks
No help with the pump, but start with the pick up tube/hose from the tank to the pump. My buddy's 580L would not fire, found the supply & return hose cracked from sitting. Good luck
Here's one thread, sorry no pics. You can search this forum through a regular search engine by using "case injection pump heavyequipmentforums". How much experience do you have? Don't mean to be a jerk but there's so many things to tell you depending on what you know already. The lever is attached to the shut off cable/rod, or should be obvious how it fell apart. The metering valve and the rest of the linkage are inside the pump, and you need to take the cover off to see if they're working. It should be two acorn nuts holding the cover on (I forget how to say "acorn nuts" in Swedish?)
Found some pics in this thread: Maybe the pump looks somehow similar. The shut-off linkage is just a wild guest to start with. Of course I need to check fuel flow to pump etc. No experience with this type of diesel engines.. but i´m quite hand with mechanics :deadhorse. Here in Sweden we have problems with alge (bacteria..?) wich grow in the bio-friendly diesel after some time. The seller had this problem a few years ago.
We have the same problems with bio diesel gumming up, that would be a likely cause of the sticking. The pics in those threads were cummins engines, but for all I know the pump is similar. In any case if you've confirmed you have fuel coming out of the bleeders on the pump and nothing going out the injection lines, then you don't have much to lose by taking the cover off the pump. If it's sat with biodiesel, I'd bring some flammable brakecleaner to help clean it up/loosen it up.
