Hello everyone, I recently bought a 1987 Case 580k backhoe for use around the farm. Learned a lot from the threads on here, great forum! Backhoe works great, couple of little problems I’ve been working my way through. Instrument panel was shot, built a new one using boat gauges. Torque converter has a little leak, steering cylinder had a major leak, just rebuilt it today. Boom works great to the left, will barely go to right of center. The swing sequence valve roller isn’t touching the cam, and the pivot bar swings freely with the linkage disconnected. The rod that goes to the swing sequence valve appears to be frozen in place. I believe the swing sequence valve is seized. I’ve searched the internet for a rebuild kit but can’t find one. Any one have any guidance for me? Thanks, Keith

This is a very common thing with these machines. I have never seen it in the valve, it has always been in the linkage, usually the pivot. tap the roller with a hammer and it will usually go to back to working. If it happens a lot, you will need to repair it. By all means disconnect the linkage from the valve and make sure it moves free before you go to the expensive and labor intensive valve rebuild.
Welcome to HEF, Auto45 ! Perhaps you have read this thread. HeavyEquipmentForums If not there is a huge amount of info about the linkage and valve. Even more in the links posted in that thread.
Make sure the lock bolt for the upper pivot pin is in place and not broken. If that pin has turned the sequence valve will not work.
Hello everyone ! Sorry to bring up such an old topic. I have the exact same problem. I think it's the springs in the control valve that are ruined. Because the previous owner stored the backhoe loader with the arm in right position. Where the cam compresses the spring. Did you finally find a solution? THANKS!
This was my problem
Welcome to HEF @Hncrane Yep! That will do it every time! Hope you found a spacer to fit the slotted hole in the pin plate - as this will keep the bolt tight & prevent the pin from turning slightly with each movement.
Going to contact the local dealer tomorrow. Do you think there is a part number for this or rig up a spacer and bolt myself? Very new to this as this is my grandpas backhoe
Just use a high tensile bolt & some washers, the same diameter as the broken one. You could make the spacer from a larger nut that the bolt passes through & grind the flats to suit the slotted hole in the pin.
Perfect! Thanks for your help!
