Hey Guys, I have a Case 680C backhoe that spend the day digging and running fine, parked in the barn and the next day it wont move an inch. Runs and operates normal but doesnt do a thing when put in forward or reverse. Guy replaced the torque converter thinking that was the issue and no help. Anyone have an idea where to start?
Is it not running like a safety switch is not working (ie: engine runs ok)? If so, check all if your safety relays and fuses in the fuse box
Yes the engine runs perfect and it digs perfect just no forward or reverse. When I shift it into gear there is absolutely no reaction, change in rpm, or anything.
Welcome to HEF, Ferv ! There is a small lever below the the F/W shift lever. It is an air valve that allows a brake pedal to put the transmission in neutral when the brake is applied. It is a very handy feature when using the loader to load trucks. The valve on the transmission can easily stick in the neutral position and exhibit exactly what you describe. Accumulated dirt on it will cause problems. There is also a spring on the transmission valve that can break, get weak or get too dirty to operate. The transmission valve is vulnerable to tree branches and brush to jam it into the neutral position. #28 is the clutch control return spring.
Hey Tinkerer! Really appreciate it! So, I took a look to the best of my abilities at what you mentioned, and in the process identified a wire that is hanging loose from a part that I have no idea what it is down beside the tranny. I am attaching a picture below. Also, the spring was dirty as heck, but no change after a good cleaning. I am unsure of what you mean when you say F/W shift lever? Can you elaborate or provide a picture please. Really appreciate the help!!
Afyer looking closer, I believe that spring is missing. Attached is a pic, do you see the location the spring should be?
Can you get the tractor serial number ? I'm sure that is a 680 series B that I'm seeing in the photo. So, you don't have air brakes, right ? You have a handle on the dash to engage or disengage the the automatic function of the brakes putting the shuttle in neutral when you want that function. That is the valve for sure. Push it fully in or fully out. Check to see if it goes into gear in one or the other positions. You have a linkage problem that holding the valve in neutral. The return spring and a couple of other parts are missing. That is why that slot on the linkage is missing. Do not get yourself run over while moving that valve !!!!!!! Set the brakes !!!!!
It says in the serial number tag its a 680C Serial number #9108525
Ok. With a serial number now we can see what you have, Ferv. You have an early 680 series c. The empty slot on the linkage in your photo is supposed to have the end of the control cable in it. The spring on the brake pedal linkage is showing in the photo. Check it out and see if it is functioning. Likely the brake pedal linkage is the root of your problem. You could remove rod #2 and and completely eliminate the brake pedal form pushing the clutch disconnect valve in. the drawing s from the parts book. you can find the online book here ---> https://www.mycnhistore.com/us/en/c...parts/cn/43FBDC52-8FBF-E111-9FCE-005056875BD6 Your fuel transfer may be disconnected and another one is in place of it. That is normal. Find the fuel line outlet on the tank and trace it to the filters. The OEM pump is outrageously expense and usually replaced with a cheaper one. I have done that myself.
Can someone here help me please just signed up I have a 680K that wont move in 1st gear was working fine but sat 2 tears it seems to idle a little high. The tach is burried the needle but not because of the engine just burrys itsel evn though less 1.5
Welcome to HEF, billcoll ! Does it move in 2nd or third ? Prolly one of the throttle linkages is not going all the way to the idle position. Check the throttle shaft on the injection pump and see if it all the way down on the idle position. #2 in the image is the idle adjustment.
