Have a 1966 830 diesel case tractor, cannot get the back wheel bolts (4) of them removed. These are the bolts that hold wheel on the axle. They are approx. 6 to 8" long and will not budge. Try heating the surface but no movement. Any help are knowledge would be greatly appreciated .
So you have an axle, and the hub that clamps to the axle has four stuck bolts? That's a little tricky because of the distance between the head and the threads. I would start with heating the piece that those bolts thread into, aim for 300 degrees, water drops should sizzle. The faster you can heat it the better, hopefully the bolts will absorb heat/expand faster than the axle, putting less clamping force on the axle, and the "nut" will be expanded enough to break the bolts loose. Then it comes down to the length of your cheater bar. Also try tapping the bolt heads with a hammer, and turning them slightly TIGHTER to start. The good news is that you're not very likely to break these being a good grade of bolt into cast iron, assuming this wasn't a salt loading tractor.
Delmer: Thanks for the advice. We have another 830 tractor here & removed the back wheel on it (very hard but got it done) We are now trying to do the same on this tractor. We have heated the surface that you have mentioned were it was cherry red but no luck we also tried hammering the bolts & no luck we have broke some of are wrenches with the amount of torque we have applied with cheater bar. We are really at a stand still here. I appreciate your help Thank you .
Wrenches? you should be using an impact socket, or USA made, with a 3/4" or 1" drive breaker bar, and cheater pipe on that.
yeah you are right, we were using a 3/4" drive & it broke. will get a 1" drive this weekend I think that will be the only solution.
