Im gonna order a few track rollers for a cat215 serial 96L1789. I have a parts manual for a 95z and I want to verify fitment is the same for the 96L, can anyone get me the drawing for the 96L with the updated part number, thanks in advance
Good day Im not sure if this is of help or not please see attched. Kind regards Uffex
DGreen4298 - You need to download the current Cat One Safe Source, and check fitment of the track roller part numbers against the excavator serial numbers. It's easy to find the part number fitment that way, using Ctrl + F keys. Cat are constantly changing part numbers, particularly for undercarriage components.
Quoted Track Roller Part Number for 96L1789 is a 6S-3607 which services to 3T-4352 which is the P/N quoted on Uffex's attachment. The above are different P/Ns to what is quoted for 95Z-prefix and from what I can see the 95Z track roller Part Numbers do NOT service to the 96L Part Number. If you want a 96L Parts Manual here is a used one on eBay for $40 + S&H. https://www.ebay.com/itm/182218091475
The 96L prefix 215 excavator was built in Belgium from 1976 to 1981 and is the early production model of the 215. The 95Z prefix was also built in Belgium, from 1983 to 1984 and is a later production model of the 215. In my 1986 Cat Undercarriage Conversion handbook, there are two completely different track roller designs and dimensions. The book lists "215 NC" (Non-Current - i.e. - obsolete) track rollers, and "215" (Current) track rollers. There are massive differences in dimensions between the two versions of the track rollers, which makes them not interchangeable. The major and immediately obvious difference between the early 215 with NC undercarriage, and the later, "current" 215 undercarriage, is that the early 215 utilises the D3/931 6.125" pitch track chain, and the later 215 undercarriage utilises the 6.75" pitch, D4 track chain. On that basis, I would hazard an educated guess that the later 95Z prefix 215 runs the 6.75" track chain, and the earlier 96L prefix 215 runs the 6.125" track chain - in which case, getting your undercarriage parts information from a 95Z prefix parts catalog is giving you the wrong undercarriage P/No's for your 96L prefix machine. To help you out, I have scanned and posted the pages from the 1986 UC Conversion handbook covering the 215 track rollers, which provides all the dimensions you need, to figure out what you can, and can't do.
