So today I went to start the machine up and it gave me this code. I understand that it is the Right Forward Solenoid that I need to look at, however I do not know where this solenoid is located on the machine. I popped the cab up and looked for anything obvious or wires that could be rubbing, etc. But no luck. Can anyone help me out here? I don’t believe it should be a huge problem to fix, but I have no access to manuals or anything that would direct me where to do. Machine is a 2016 -FTL Attached are some pictures I took while on site today.
1705-5 is a current below normal condition in the RH FWD drive pump control solenoid. Attached the troubleshooting procedure. You will also need an electrical schematic. However there are 3 of them for the FTL-prefix. Which S/N range (last 5 digits of the PIN) does your machine fall in.? Up to 6187, 6188-14575, or above 14576.?
im having similar issues, at first i was getting a left side speed sensor, and now im getting a right side speed sensor issue. the error code i get is 1705-5 and 696-3. i opened the cab and cleaned all the connections, some were frayed looks like a previous repair. i checked voltage and am getting 8volts from the ECM, have yet to check the connection to the speed sensors. however, after thoroughly washing down the machine and a while off it ran for about 30 minutes with no issues, and then it only lets me go in reverse. left side is gone entirely for errors just right side. it runs forward and back without issue until the error kicks on. assuming a fault in the harness and not the sensor itself or the ECM because it will run for a while? possibly water or dirt causing a short after it running for a while?
A 1705 Code is nothing to do with speed sensors. Are you sure you were looking in the correct place.? Where exactly were you looking.? Did you raise the cab.?
well at first i got a 696-3 and it said speed sensor, then i got the 1705-5 and today when i turned it on i got a 571-2 error and now it wont move at all. i did open the cab, i had some splits in the wires at the harness connections underneath in the wires, and i fixed those. i am about to pull the track and check the harness at the speed sensor unless there is an easy way to check the wiring there. the case that protects the speed sensor was/is absolutely jammed with mud and muck from my father using the machine and not washing it at all. it used to throw a left speed sensor abnormal error, and now it started saying the right speed forward sensor and locking the movement on the machine. could it be the wiring harness from the ECM? when i check the voltage some of the wires give me 8v but i havent done any of the testing procedures yet with it besides checking voltage and it was prior to me seeing a wiring diagram. just sort of winging it from previous machine repair experience.
actually, you know what, i switched the sensor wires from left to right to see if it would throw a left hand code earlier, which would make sense as when i tried to move forward on the left it said right motor reverse issue instead of right motor forward issue. must be a short in the wire from the under cab harness to the harness next to the drive?
Can you explain which sensors exactly you switched the wiring to, even better if you can post a photo. Also can you supply the machine Serial Number. I note you haven't posted it yet.
when you raise the cab, underneath where the wires exit to each of the drives there is a 4 pin connector. i swapped those out to see if i could get a different error code to determine if it was the sensor that was bad or the wire that was bad. and the machine is a 2017 cat 259d FTL14466.
Are you talking about the connector marked CONN 37 in the illustration below, and the mating connector to the other motor.? 571-2 is a "motor speed unexpected" Event, it's not a Diagnostic Code. Do you still have the speed sensor harness connectors interchanged like you mentioned above.? If so then put them all back to where they should be and see what happens to the 571. 571 is logged when the speed of the hystat motor is faster than expected or in the opposite direction of travel. The machine will come to a stop and the parking brake will be applied. The parking brake cannot be released until power is cycled to the key start switch. i think what may be happening is that you have one sensor telling the ECM one or both travel motors are moving forward, and another sensor telling it that it's moving in revrse. End result - 571-2.
just finally had time to check it out today, Went through some of your other posts with testing procedures. The problem was a mix of things. Bad wire on the harness to the speed sensor that’s under the cab, oxidation and frays. Fixed those and started getting proper voltage. Then got the 1705-5 error and did that one and ended up being a bad solenoid because I jumped between them and got 1706-6. Going to replace the solenoid this week and see what happens. Is it recommended to replace all 4 solenoids at the same time? Or just the one that’s causing trouble?
Get the price of one solenoid first. That may colour your thinking.
they seem to be only about $160? unless im looking at the wrong part?
Unless you quote the Part Number you're looking at it's impossible to tell.
finally found time today to go tinker with the machine. I replaced the solenoid and no dice. both speed sensors are getting about 5k ohms so i assume theyre ok, the machine ran for about a couple minutes today after tidying up the wires again, i ordered and replaced the connectors. i am now getting 1706-6, e696-3, e568-2. i am getting 3.7 volts at each of the solenoids, and im getting 8v at the speed sensor when i test with the meter to the power and ground 5v when i test to each of the signal wires. my colors on the machine going to the speed sensors are purple, white, yellow and yellow. my wire colors coming in from the harness are yellow, white, grey and brown for the right speed sensor my wire colors coming in from the harness are yellow, white, purple and yellow, for the left speed sensor which is driving me insane because im not sure if i crossed the yellows when installing the new harness connector. ive since ordered an entirely new harness. "614-9433: Front Platform Harness" since the 441-4803 part was replaced by this new number. i just find it odd that sometimes it will drive fine for a couple minutes without a code and then it will just stop all movements on the machine.
Easy to check……… 1. At the 4-pin connector on the machine side of the speed sensor harness identify the locations of the Pin Numbers 1 through 4. They are moulded into the back side of the connector. 2. Then find the Yellow wire that gives you 8v when measured between it and the White wire in the machine side of the harness with the key ON. 3. That yellow wire goes in Pin 1 of the connector as shown by the electrical schematic. Simples………..
i installed new 4 pin connectors because the wires were wrecked from the previous owner, so i wanted to install clean fresh watertight seals. i will check this tomorrow to be sure. would those wires being crossed continue to give me this error?
Frankly I have no idea, but nothing good can happen if you have a wire supplying power crossed with a sensor signal wire. The illustration below shows the pin number locations on a 6-pin connector. I couldn't find the equivalent one for a 4-pin but you get the idea.
I replaced the entire wire harness and now I am still getting the 1705-5 And the solenoid has been replaced. Bad ECM? Or speed sensors? I am getting 5000ohms on both speed sensors however.
You do realise that the 1705-5 has nothing to do with speed sensors.? It was mentioned before.
Fixed it! It was the left front solenoid… it was throwing the code for the front right, but when I checked them all the front left was bad. Which is odd because I installed a brand new harness and it was labeled to which connector goes to what component, so I’m curious why it would throw the wrong code out.
Yes I know, but I was unsure if a bad sensor was going to throw improper voltage to one of the solenoids because my initial error was a speed sensor error l, unexpected movement.
The unexpected movement Event would have been related to the drive pump solenoid issue.
i dont recall the exact error code, it was 568 or 578 - something. however, now that its fixed, why would my screen be displaying the 1705-5 and when using a jumper displaying 1706 as the testing procedure says if it wasnt that solenoid that was the issue? are they all connected together in a series and if one goes bad it will shoot a code through another?
also, i am by no means a mechanic, i build commercial/residential properties, i have a very rudimentary understanding of mechanical and electrical on equipment, enough to do repairs with some common sense. ive rebuilt a diesel engine on a komatsu and rewired the machine following schematics, but i typically will do a boatload of research and try to order parts and tools and follow steps online, so i appreciate you being prompt to respond and dropping knowledge on me throughout this process.
It would likely be E570 - Unexpected Right Motor Forward Speed Detected. The E570 triggers when the RH drive motor speed in the forward direction (as indicated by the motor speed sensor) is not in agreement with the command from the Machine ECM and the current that is passing through the solenoid. 1705-5 relates to the solenoid that controls the swash plate angle signal for the RH forward drive pump. Specifically the current passing through the solenoid is lower than expected. Each solenoid has two wires, power and return. The return wire H801 Purple is common for all four solenoids but each one has its own individual power wire coming from the Machine ECM. H801-PU also functions as the return wire for the 2-speed solenoid valve.
Derek just curious I’m having the same issue and code and want to make sure I’m checking the correct solenoids so as you say left and right is this sitting on the machine right side or looking at the pump while standing in front of the machine right or left side of the pump? And according to Cats schematic it’s saying C = Forward solenoid on the Rear pump.
What is the Serial Number of the machine you are working on.? From the electrical schematic you can identify the four pump control solenoids using the colours of the wires connected to them.
