cat 277c2 attachment release intermittent issue

Turxx ยท 2023-06-10 12:35

Sometimes it releases perfectly. Sometimes it doesn't. If someone is inside running the switch it clicks and hoses flex. If i hit the underside of the pins with a hammer they move a little. If I leave it set and get in later it might work perfectly might not. The issue only seems to present itself when trying to release. Never had a problem getting them to lock. It does only ever seem to work with the boom in the air above the cab. This never seemed right to me. Shouldn't they release on the ground?

How many different attachments are you using with it.? Does it behave the same with all of them.? Have you tried disassembling & lubricating the coupler pins.? Springs "tired" maybe.?

Several attachments. Makes no difference. Finally got the one off and lubed the pins up real good with nothing on it wanting to work the pins in and out. Now there is no attachment, pins are in lock position and stuck. When it works it works smooth aside from the boom needing to be up. When it doesn't work they don't even seem to try. I can't seem to see a consistent variable.

There isn't a hydraulic hose somewhere in the coupler system getting trapped/crushed and cutting the oil flow when the boom is down is there.?

No. I did take one side off at the little ram that runs the one pin. Hit the button ans oil shot out. Looks good so far. Then did the bottom side, hit the release button, no oil. Hit the close button, oil. That doesn't seem right. A stuck valve? I then cracked all the lines and manually ran the rams in. One attachment is better than none. Another thing I considered was air. Is there a bleeder somewhere? Also considered poor flow. Both those problems seem like they would not be intermittent. Does it sound like a valve is sticking?

There is a manifold with 2 stacked solenoid valves on it. They should be held on to the valve body by a large nut. Remove the nut and slide the solenoids off the shaft. Switch the position of the solenoids (outer one to inner & vice versa) but keep the wiring connections the same. The switch in the cab will now work "backwards" but try the system again like that. If it still doesn't work try giving the body of the manifold a decent whack with a dead blow hammer. Also if you just turn the key on but do not start the engine and operate the quick coupler switch you ought to be able to hear and/or feel the solenoids clicking.

Just an update for those that helped me or anyone reading threads looking for their own answers. I replaced the wires running down the boom to the solenoid block and that solved my problems.
