Cat 289D demand fan issues

Brianc383 · 2025-08-10 12:06

SN: TAW02381 I’ve noticed over the last year of owning my unit, the demand fan has slowed down. It used to spin really fast about 10-15 seconds after starting and now you can nearly hear it when it does. The machine is running fine and it’s always puffs a cloud of dust out of the radiator when it starts but just wondering if this is a solenoid replacement issue or a run a calibration on the system issue. Thoughts? Thanks, Brian

If you unplug the electrical connector on the solenoid does the fan go straight away to full speed.?

Haven’t tried that but headed to test it now.

Fan will go wide open when unplugged Sir.

In that case there is apparently nothing wrong with the hydraulic side. Can you check the resistance of the fan solenoid coil. Specification is 7.3 ohms at 68 DegF.

Yes, I’ll go back down there this evening and check that. Thank you, Brian
