Serial number cat0289djtaw04307 When operating the machine with or with hydraulic going to implement it would get a surge in power reduction like it was bugging down. Without implement going it started out mostly on turns, then when going straight. Would surge or bog when using the hydraulic to the implement. Turned the machine off now it won't start. Engine and hydraulic temps are normal. Suggestions???
Have you done any service work on the fuel system.? Do you have an Operation & Maintenance Manual.? If not, go to the bottom of the electric fuel transfer pump #6 in the illustration below.. In the housing you will find a screen. Is it plugged with cr@p.? If it is you can wash it in kerosene or similar and reuse it. try that as a first step. I see that your machine has the full-colour Advanced Display. Have any Active Codes come up on it recently.?
Did add fuel this morning. Going to change both fuel filters as they look dirty. No codes
I would suggest that you look at the screen in the transfer pump first. When you have cleaned it disconnect each fuel line at the filter one at a time. Remove the screwed fitting from each port in the filter head and blow through it to ensure it’s not plugged. Directly below the elbow fitting on top of the filter is a one-way check valve. Make sure it’s not stuck. Lastly while you have the filter element removed blow through all the passages in the filter head to make sure they are clear. When you have everything reassembled turn the key ON but do not start the engine. You should hear the electric pump run. Does it.? When the pump stops after about 1 minute the filter bowl ought to be full. Is it.?
Update. Changed both the fuel filters and the problem resolved itself. Thanks for the help.
Did you find anything in the screen inside the electric transfer pump.?
No. Both filters were just black where the filter material is. Don't think it was letting enough desiel to pass through anymore.
Did the black material have a slimy feel to it by any chance.?
Yes it did have a bit of a slimy feel. I hope that isn't a bad sign.
If it’s what I think it might be then it is a bad sign. Google “fuel humbugs”, micro-organisms that live in water and feed on hydrocarbons at the water-fuel interface.
Thanks for the nightmares now! But truely thanks for the info. I had no idea about this.
So what would you recommend using to ttreat this fuel humbug?
It's all been covered before. See this THREAD
