cat 299d2 xhp replacing the hydraulic coupling

monkeybrains64 ยท 2025-09-11 12:51

we have a cat 299d2 xhp sn-DX201682 and it's lost all hydraulics, no leaks, just suddenly all hydraulics stopped including the fan. any advice on the best way to change it out? I'm thinking pull the engine is the best way. anyone have an idea how much it cost for the dealer to do it?

Pulling the engine is the way the book says to do it, but other say that you can also go in from the back side of the cab though the firewall and pull the pumps. Apparently it's not a nice job either way. A lot would depend on what capacity of lifting equipment you have available. Either method you will need to get hold of or make a special wrench to get at the two bolts that hold the pump stack to the engine flywheel housing. See attached.

A bit like the D3G/D4G/D5G coupling. Maybe it needs a sticky thread for this one as well.?
