Hi All, I have an CAT301.4C on site and it is not starting. The issue has been intermittent for the past 4 weeks but the machine would start when the key was held in the start position and the operator would bounce around in the seat. Once running everything works fine (hyd lock out etc) Would anyone be able to help. I have being trying to find the serial number but the data place has been knocked off or removed by a previous person. Is there anywhere else to look? Many Thanks, Will
I have a schematic for a 301.6C and up which might be close. Need to check at start Relay if there is clean power to the coil which should be pin #10. Might have to wait to see if Nige can help, in case my schematic is off. How many hours on the machine. Simon C
Thank you Simon, It was the ignition barrel. It was full of sludge and water. A careful disassembly and reassembly cured it. It still takes 10s ish to kick due to a delay timer somewhere but then its all good. Wiring schematic attached to help out the next poor guy.
Had a good look at your schematic, thanks for that. Your key is direct to the Switching part of Starter solenoid. It is the Alternator Charge Controller that shuts off the crank if alternator is sending signal to Charge controller that the engine is turning and alternator has cut in. Not quite sure what you mean by " Takes 10s ish to kick" . Do you mean 10 seconds to crank or 10 seconds for cylinders to fire. Your unit does have glow plugs or a grid heater, my guess is glow plugs. Simon C
