Hi guys I have a cat 313fl, it revs very low and seems a bit sluggish, anyone do anything to solve this. Thanks
Have you checked for fault codes on the monitor panel. You should also provide a serial number for the machine. It will provide info for those who have access to service information to help you.
Hi The serial no. Prg10829 . I don’t have the access code for the monitor just don’t see any faults coming up
Try 9992. Has any maintenance been done on the fuel system recently, such as draining the water and sediment from the tank, changing filters, blowing fuel lines out.? Stuff like that. Did the problem appear suddenly or has it been getting worse for while.?
No I don’t have the machine long it has 5000 hours. It’s not like that it just doesn’t seem to rev up high enough. Like 1400/1500 revs seems it could do more, could it be turned up a bit
If you have not had the machine long and have not done anything to it yet then I would suggest to start by doing all the basics regarding the fuel system as a first step. Only by eliminating things will you actually get to find the root cause. It’s not a case of simply “turning something up”. If the Operation & Maintenance Manual is missing from the pocket behind the seat then you need to get hold if one ASAP. Also get into the Monitor Panel and get some accurate numbers of the maximum RPM that the engine will reach. As you keep doing things to the machine check in the RPM and monitor if there is any improvement.
Thanks for your help
The Cat Publications reference number of the O&M is SEBU8070, just in case the original has gone walkabout.

You will need to read the diagnostics and address any fault codes. I don't have a video that shows how to access the F series machines but I do have one for the E series machines. They should be similar. It was about that time in development that Cat wanted to improve fuel economy to compete with the other manufacturers so they lowered the high idle of the engines and tweaked the hydraulic pump output curves. It changed the amount of noise coming off the engine so it's hard to tell by sound if the engine is turning as fast as it should. You can monitor the engine RPM from the diagnostics in the monitor panel with the right code.
We have the same problem, but thats the way the those machine works, we changed from 313fgc to 313fl, but they all suck. Cat has probably the worst 13 to 14 ton class excavator. They are to sow
