Anybody on here got any experience of the cat 3208 engines or what they ate like? Iv heard a few reports both bad and good. Looking at making a tractor puller for fun with a Fordson major rear end and can get my hands on a 3208 for handy enough money. Its only a bit of fun and would only be used a few times every year so doesnt have to be bulletproof but i dont want something im rebuilding every 2 weeks either!! Cheers in advance fellas
It is a non linered block and not to sure it can be bored either if something real bad happens. I seem to recall the valve springs to be about the same material as the one in your ball point pen.
Is it a turbocharged 3208 or NA? You can crank them up a fair bit on the fuel pump if they're turboed. They will run 3300 rpm and sound pretty good so it would put on a show, lots of tire speed.
There's a pulling tractor around called the Silver Bullet , that runs a 3208 on alcohol. It's a winner at times. The motor needs to be built and balanced to get it to hold together but yes they can work. Marine grade 3208 parts are heavier made some of those went upwards of 400hp. Compound turbos and it could be serious contender.
