our shop just picked up a 320cl. it has a cat 3066 engine in it and everything is working well other than it smokes white pretty heavily. injectors were pulled and replaced due to a few dripping. this did improve the smoking situation but didnt fix it. Ive checked the screen in the primer pump banjo fitting. also checked for air in the fuel. both were good. there was some pump adjustments done on it a few years ago according to the service history.i dont have a ton of knowledge on mechanical fuel pumps or how to fix/adjust them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. SN: CAT0320CKANB01611 ENGINE AR: 162-6206
kudos for posting the Serial Number. Neither do I, but we have a specialist on here who does. With the illustration below he will be able to tell you what make of pump it is and what options might be available to you. Have you put a pressure gauge on the outlet from the filter to check the fuel pressure being supplied to the injection pump.?
Check the flange on the pump for timing marks . Pull a bolt on on the pump mounting flange and see if the pump is turned all the way agents the slotted hole . If not Mark the timing marks ,loosen the 4 mounting bolts and turn the pump one timing mark tighten up the bolts and see if the smoking is better. If worse turn pump the other way and check. See If you can find out if the smoking started after the pump work. Timing these pumps is done by the spill port method and is not very easy on a excavator . Good luck Bob
Hi, did you check whether engine oil level is correct ? if too much oil include inside the engine this will have an impact for this issue. As above mentioned wrong fuel injection timing also can be a cause. As well as worn valve guides or worn piston rings also sometimes will develop this problem. And check whether oil presents in the inlet manifold. if oil presents there check whether Turbocharger oil seal failed. These things are also can be checked to solve this issue. Hope this will help. Good luck.
