Cat 320N pattern change

JBDiesel ยท 2026-03-25 19:49

Good day all, I've got an older 90s model cat 320 excavator SN- 1XM00170. Looking to swap the control pattern to BHL/deere controls. Was wondering where the best place to swap the pilot lines would be and if anyone had any good diagrams of doing so? I have also attached a few pictures of an in cab switch and an added on solenoid valve, hoping someone may know what they may be for. The solenoid valve is located on the firwall by the main hydraulic pump, on the back right of the machine. Thanks

Although your S/N prefix is not listed I'm pretty sure that the attached procedure will work for you.

Thank you Nige, any idea what the solenoid block and switch pictured might possibly be for?

Where do all the lines go to.? Do you have a photo from further away.? Alternatively take a look at the hose in the top RH corner of the photo. It has an aluminium tag on it which will be marked with the Part Number.

I will take another look tomorrow and get back to you, thanks.

NPK looks like a quick change switch. Look out at the adapter by the bucket for the lines.

No coupler on it, hard pinned bucket and no lines on boom. Gonna take a closer look at the pictured solenoid valve tomorrow and see where those lines run.

Get the Part Number from that hose. That will identify the system.

The solenoid valve is usually set up to change a function. The NPK sticker indicates that the machine likely is or was plumbed for a breaker. Typical of that era was to use pilot pressure to shift a valve or combination pop f valves to get two pump flow to run the breaker. Follow the hoses from the solenoid valve and take photos of what they attach to and post.

the lack of stick hoses has me stumped on that one,

077-6430 is the hose part number. Here are some more pictures.

Not a good number. Comes up as an O-Ring. Can you upload a photo of the P/N tag on the hose please.

After removing to tag, it has NPK construction id on it, does appear to be an old hammer setup. Do you have any experience adding a pattern changer valve to one of these?

I do not, but that P/N tag confirms what @John C. mentioned before regarding the machine having been equipped with a hammer at some point in its life. I assume that the hoses in your photo would have been for the hammer control.

Go back to that document I uploaded earlier and simply swap the pilot lines over.
