our cat 416c backhoe was idling and with out warning shut down. It cranks but no start, we changed fuel filters has fuel in tank pumped hand primer still nothing. fuel is getting to gear driven fuel pump. but it dosent seem to be any getting to the injector lines? also now when u turn the key on the low oil pressure light is on and beeps. all it does is crank no start. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

It could be the electric fuel shutoff solenoid. Its on the fuel pump. Should have 12 volts with the key on.

its that the soleniod directly on top of the fuel pump has a black wire "ground" and a yellow wire#308 going to it? if so we have no power there. if you put power directly to it it starts right up but you have no throttle.

Any chance it could be a bad ignition it does seem kinda loose

it could be a faulty ignition switch or loose wire. The 308 Yellow comes from the key and goes to the alternator and the fuel shutoff. It should be 12 volts in start and key on mode.

the 308 wire that goes to the alternator has 12 volts with the key on. but the 308 wire going to the fuel pump has nothing. when i took my meter and tested continuity between the 308 wire at the alternator and the 308 wire at the fuel pump there was none. do you by any chance have a wiring diagram of this system you could share?

You probably have this figured out now. With mine the cable bundle under the cab floor plate was frayed - it was rubbing on something. Lost the fuel solenoid, the tach and something else. It's an easy fix, but you have to pull the floor plate - the one under the drivers foot.

I had a mouse get in the floor once. Made all kinds of problems. The little booger ate through three ground wires. Left just enough wire to test the circuits but they would not carry any amps.

I am having the same problem with my 416 while sitting at idle today the engine died when I turn the key to restart I have nothing gauges dont move no lights nothing It is like the battery is not hooked up I checked the batteries they are charged and the ground wire and all connections are good and tight any ideas on where to start chasing down this problem My D3 had a circuit main breaker on the panel does the 416 have one?

seems that I have similar problem with 1999 cat 416C Shut off while in use , will not start . What solution was found here ?

I experienced the same problem. If you remove the floor panel in the cab, right under the steering wheel area, there is a wire bundle that can rub and fray wires. The fuel shutoff solenoid wire is in this bundle. Have a look.

Just a thought, make sure the key is in the "run" position when you apply power to the solenoid. There should be a fuse for the solenoid also, I believe.
