Cat 87a784 988 wheel loader. Does this shaft remove out the back?

I proposed a question about this machine probably a month ago. It was operating just fine, it went in reverse, shifted it into forward and it has never moved again. Our pressures seem to be good. But the guys just noticed today a lot of slop in the yolk on the transmission side between the torque converter and transmission. They're pulling it apart now. Can someone tell me if this shaft is broken can we remove it from the rear without taking the whole thing apart? Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Well it looks like that shaft isn't broken. On to the next thing. If anyone else has any more ideas where to look that would be great. Thank you

Do you mean the top shaft in that illustration.? If it has play then do you have a bearing starting to come apart.? Something tells me the transmission is coming out next.

Turns out it is just the splines on the yolk. The shaft is tight and spins smooth. There is no metal in the system and it never gave any indications of a problem. It was simply doing its thing during the day, it was put into reverse to back away from the truck. It was then put into forward to go back to the bank. And it never ever responded again after that last backup. No flinching no groaning no nothing. And the torque converter is spinning. Pressure on the filter housing is 325. So we need to start digging deeper. I feel it will be something simple but just don't know how or where to locate it. But we are trying

Not something simple like the transmission neutralizer stuck is it.?

Well we just got a book on it. We didn't have one before. So we are going to be exploring that. Would you by chance have information on specifically where to look for that?

Should be on a linkage operated from the left brake pedal.

I do believe nige that these are hydraulically operated brakes, I think there is only a short linkage that goes to a valve

I can't find info to confirm or deny for an 87A but usually pressing the left brake pedal first neutralizes the transmission then when you press down further it applies the brakes.

Yes it does. It's all done hydraulicly. I think in the valve body the linkage is attached to.
