I have 1970 cat 941 that seems sluggish while pushing, or digging. have replaced all filters , ck trans pressures, all ok occording to service manual, removed trans and overhauled trans and torque converter, no metal of any kind in filters, removed and ck steering clutches , stack height good occording to service manual, from there went to injection pump scroll type pump, had injection pump service turn up fuel, thought power issue was fixed. Went out yesterday after sitting 2 weeks started engine , engine runs fine, also did compression test all cyc are 425psi, best example when I put tractor in 1st or reverse i have to give poss half throttle to get moving. torque converter does not overheat, trans engagement into gear feels solid, acts like torque converter poss slipping, although conver inlet and outlet pressure good.just dont know where to go from here. Will not spin tracks in 1st unless wide open throttle,
Keith, it doesn't sound like your tractor is much under power if you can spin the tracks in first. It takes a bit of throttle to move the machine, varies with under foot conditions. If you can get a tach, check the low idle, high idle and torque stall speeds and post them. Torque stall is trans in 3 rd brakes on and throttle wide open. We should get a better idea from that info. Later Bob
Just to add to what bob said. TC stall rpm is 1992rpm +-50 for a 941.
Check to see that your getting full throttle travel AT THE PUMP. Just because your maxed at the foot feed or hand throttle doesnt mean your maxed at the pump[worn linkage] Good Luck
thank you for your replies, not sure how to go about accurately read rpm . I have no tach. or way to hook up tach drive on injection pump. when doing high and low idle tests before, bought cheap rpm gun to read tape i put on front crank balancer. high idle was 2000 rpm. I guess i can get someone to load test tractor in 3rd gear and try to get reading with hand held gun. One responder said stall speed is 1922, so i guess anything over that speed would mean my converter was slipping?
I know this is old thread but im new to the forums and just thought i ask if you found issue casing this. Im having exact same issue with a low hour 95B1 69H. But trans and convertor isnt rebuiltas yours. Pressures were checked and in spec. Oil & filters using Cat filters and mobiletrans TDTO oil changed in trans and checked screens, bevel gear, and hydraulics. Oil was still clean and no metal or fibers in none of the screens or filters. Thanks Steve
Good evening, it has been awhile, I went into injection pump and turned up rpm, but it seems to be the design to be at high idle to get the best power of that machine
Thanks for getting back. Will start at injector pump and try that. I may have same issue.
Suggested first step - measure High Idle RPM and post back the rsults.
This is next on the list to do soon as i get tool to check rpm and will report back. Thanks
