Cat Gland Wear Sleeve Removal Tricks

Rebuilding a few Cat Excavator Hydraulic Cylinders, and have decided to replace the wear sleeve in the gland nut, any tricks to getting these out and reinstalled, My process in the past seems barbarack.

    You talking about the fibre bushing.?

    This is the only picture I have at the moment, The Bronze bushing on the inside, there is a circlip on the otherside you can just see a glimpse of in the picture that comes out to allow the bushing to be removed, but they are stuck pretty good and no ridge to grab to press out.

    Long tapered punch ground with a slanted end find the parting line in the bushing and get about a 1" away and drive between the bushing and the head and it will peel that end up , bushing is now loose . Hit with a flapper wheel if it left a mark.

    Pack some dry ice inside that gland, wait 30 seconds…..sometimes it will fallout.

    Apparently age is creeping in, I had forgot the last one I did we chucked up in the Lathe and turned it down to a piece of paper and pulled it out.
