I replaced a line that was leaking foamy oil and don't want to start the skidsteer until I know if the oil should be replaced. There appears to be some foamy oil in the bottom of the reservoir. What would you advise please?
what does the hydraulic oil look like in the site/level glass? If it’s full and looks clean, start it and move things around a bit to get the air out. Can always change the filter first and see if there’s anything in the old filter that looks suspicious.
Thanks, will check filter first.
A YouTuber by the name od Adept Ape has a good video on how to cut and inspect oil filters. His video is of an engine oil filter but the process is pretty much the same whatever system the filter is from. The filter media has to be squeezed in a vice.
Thanks Nige, will do. I decided to pump out the reservoir and got about 1.5 gal. of foamy oil. Heated a pan and dribbled some on the hot surface and it sissled which another forum said would indicate water in the fluid. Anyone had that experience?
From your description it would appear so. Now your problem is how to get rid of all the water-contaminated oil from the rest of the system in addition to what’s in the tank.
