Sorta on the hunt for a newer cat to build logging road. We use 2 d7g's right now, one with a ms ripper and one with a grapple. Lookin to get something with a cab, thats a little nicer for the winter months. 6's are too small, every year we are building more road thats included in a logging price, so kinda makes sence to get the biggest cat we can haul, to put in the roads the quickest.(no full time cat operator either) So down to a 7 h/r xr or d8n or r. Looking for some opinons on them. Also been following rb auctions in the west here. In prince george last auction, 97 8r sold for 72 5 ready for the bush(ie guarded), good buy? Seeing alot of alberta cats too, 7's and 8's with good u/c for 75 to 150 grand, so thats about the price range we are looking. thanks!
Hi, csquared, not sure what part of the province you work in, I mainly work in the interior. Ran a 7-r xr, great machine used almost as much fuel as a d8 apx-450 -500 litres in 10 hrs.We had a hard time with broken roller bolts apx 10 per month, ended up drilling and tapping one size larger problem solved. Used a 6-h a lot of the time, get as much done as a 7-g and only burn apx 250 litres.Never had the chance to use a 8-n but used the d-8 k and d-8r and they were both great machines, but harder to move.Hope this helps, good luck.
