need to know how to switch the boom and crowd controls.

    Welcome to Heavy Equipment Forums. If you really want an answer to that, you're at least going to have to say what make and model of excavator you're talking about. On some it's as simple as the flip of a switch, and on others it's not possible, or at least impractical.
