D3 Cat. ser#79U5972, engine 3204, arrange 5G0520. the issue is recranking after i shut it down for lunch or a break. It seems to be connected to neutral switch somehow. the only reason i have for saying that is i have kept messing with shift handle and sometimes it cranks. When i get on it after it has been ran for several hrs and sat for an hr or so, when i turn key there is nothing, no click, no sound at all.
So the neutral safety switch should be in the left pedestal shifter. With the key turned to start position and held there, how much voltage in DC Volts does your meter read when you put the red lead on one side of the switch and black lead on the other side of the swtch. This is assuming that the linkage is correct to make the switch click. Just because it clicks or is fully depressed does not mean any or all the power has passed through. Have you otherwise tried to jump the starter with the key in run position and jumper between the battery positive connector of the starter solenoid and the solenoid " S " Terminal. Have you checked all the battery connections, ground cables for rust or green death. When you say there is no sound at all what is the Battery voltage at that time, does your unit have a disconnect switch. Check a few of these things and get back so we can start some more tests. On my 931B the neutral safety switch is on the transmission. I'd clean all the electrical connections. I could see a dirty oily connection not working when everything is hot. One of the wires going down the firewall rubbed through and would short intermittently. I don't think it's that uncommon to have to move the trans. shifter around a bit to get neutral according to the switch.
