Hy gents, Having a low power condition, along with brown thick smoke... trying to rule out turbocharger, as it does not have any play in the shaft... Does anyone have any idea of the PSI this engine shall have at full load? engine 3304 DI, in a D5 1DD06574 Thanks very much
About 16" Hg with the torque converter stalled against the brakes in 3rd speed forward.
Once had an FM9 volvo that was low on power and bellowing smoke. Pulled intake. Compressor wheel and shaft play was fine. Subbed out to volvo dealer thinking it was boost sensor fault. Turned out that the turbine wheel has come off the shaft. Moral to story, pays to start engine and check it’s actually spinning.
Thanks Nige, very helpfull as always. High idle @2.3k rpm right? Yep, that could be as well, but not in this case has we have boost , but not close to the 0.7 bar , and the funny thing is the compressor does not whisle at all, even with all intake removed. Somebody suggested a clogged exaust... that might be... hard to belive but nothing like checking it out. thanks
If you are referring to High Idle No Load RPM then 2330 +/- 60 RPM.
Exactly... High no load. Thanks
Hy gents, Topic of this tread is solved, it was the turbo ... Removed it, i was an air reserch TD04 unit, guess is some china crap as originally this engine uses a garret right? Everything on the turbo looked fine, no shaft play, compressor wheel prestine, turbine whell also intact, what i found out was the turbine casing gap was too wide compared to other turbos i´ve seen in the past, and in the one i dropped there. Its not i have dealt with too much turbomachnery but to me it seemed the case have eroded... or this case did not match the core itself... Anyway engine is now fitted with a HX40 out of a volvo D9 engine, he is riping, now does sound like a real CAT engine, boost went from .4 to 1.2 bar for the same fuel... Pain in the ass to adapt such a big boy there but all came to work out fine, just had to rebuild the exaust and exaust hook points, in the beetween got rid of mufler, something i still have to ponder bring it again. Next step is to bring power dwn to machine spec, as someone gave it too much fuel in the past . Pictutres will folow. Regards
Hy gents, Just to post pics of the beast... HX40 rocks. Direct Exaust is a way too loud, so some more works on a mufler have to be done. And i guess an Intake cooler might be added too.
Wow, you got your money’s worth out of the sprockets
What type of air pre cleaner u guys recomend? having a lot of dust this dry season... too much
