Anyone know where the serial is stamped on a d6h? Tag is missing on mine
If the machine tag is missing can you find a S/N plate on the engine..? The machine S/N can also be traced that way provided it still has the original engine installed. On most tractors the S/N is stamped on the rear L/H side of the bevel case directly underneath the fuel tank.
As Nige said. If the rear plate is missing look for the rivets residue where it was and clean up that spot. Cat also stamped the serial number into the case behind the tag. When visiting the factory we were told that the stamped number was used during assembly and the serial number and info plates installed after painting.
I have seen the tags mounted up behind the operator's seat on the operators right corner. I've seen a few machines now that have the serial number on the rear case welded over and then ground smooth.
No reason to do that unless they were stolen.
