D6T spindles cracked

johntims ยท 2015-12-21 10:29

Anyone ever seen the final drive spindles crack? I have a dozer in my shop both sides are cracked in the same place. The local cat dealer has not seen this failure before and yet the part has been discontinued by cat with no replacement. Seems a little suspect to me that there is no replacement part for a machine that is still in production by cat. Anyway if any one has seen this before or has a set of D6T spindles kickin around they would like to sell please let me know. :Banghead

What's the Serial Number of the machine and what's the Part Number of the spindle that's allegedly unavailable..? Also what's the total hours on the tractor to date and what year is it..?

wfh00377 10000 hrs 2464733 is the part number. I believe the machine is a 2005, The part come up on part store as unavailable and my psr from cat as well as a parts person both confirmed that that number is discontinued with no replacement

My Parts system shows 246-4733 as "Indirect Replacement - Contact dealer". Unfortunately I can't access deep enough to see what the replacement Part Number is. Your dealer PSR & Parts Dept need to involve their Technical Communicator and have him put in a DSN Request to the factory in order to identify a) a spindle P/N that will fit your tractor to replace the cracked 246-4733 and, b) what other parts may need changing to install the replacement spindle. This is often the case with an Indirect Replacement, other parts need to be changed in order to make the replacement fit. Also the dealer TC needs to contact Cat and mention Service Program REBE4325 entitled "Product Support Program for replacing the spindle assembly in final drive on certain D6R & D6T tractors". The program does NOT apply to your particular tractor (it's for a different spindle Part Number) but it may be that the symptoms of failure are similar between the two and therefore whatever "fix" the dealer & Cat come up with between them you might just get some financial assistance towards the cost of the repair. Don't bank on it, but if you don't ask you don't get ........
