We got a D7E 48A which has been sitting for about 5 years went to get her started back up an start clearing off some new land an went to check oil in pony motor gear box an it was full of antifreeze an oil mix. Was wondering if anyone else has ran into this kind of problem an if I switch over to electric starter would be a big issue.
No big issue to switch to starter. As long as there are pre-drilled holes on the flywheel housing. If not takes a bit of time to center drive housing and drill and tap mounting holes. Other than that pretty straight forward. Remove all items associated with pup motor if desired. Put another battery on it and hook it in series to get 24v and away you go. Only thing to note is that you may run into harder starts on cold mornings/days. If a person desired could install pre-cups with glow plugs and the wiring to go with it.
If you wish to go direct start ebay has unit ready to mount. Uses the large bolt circle drive end housing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-50MT-P...630830?hash=item5d8a52a62e:g:3AIAAOSwYilcuj7h
what was the oil like in the pup engine crankcase and if it was good, how would antifreeze get into the pup engine transmission? was the coolant level in the radiator down? possibly, if the side plates were off, it was just rain water that got in through the breather or hi-lo shifter(if it has one). before you go to a lot of work, why not drain the pup transmission and refill and see if it happens again- especially if its been sitting for 5 years.
It was completely full when we pulled dip sticks nasty mud oil ran out. Than small amounts of antifreeze in different times while we let it drain. Just didn’t want to stick a lot of money into it if there might be something wrong with the big motor.
just change the oil and run it , it will be ok to get the big engine running and if it fine then worry about the pony motor
Water/antifreeze source would have to be from the main engine which has plumbing to and from the pony engine. For water to get to the transmission it would have to leak from the pony engine into the pony crankcase then travel through the clutch section to get to the transmission. Source could be bad pony head gasket sealing, corroded cylinder block or cracks in the cooling jacket.
ive just aquired d7e with a d339 serial number 48A10612. can anyone tell me some info on it? the tractor seams to be under powered and blowing black smoke alot. the turbo is getting hot and im concerned it may be the issue. im trouble shooting and cant seem to find what the oil pressure should be.
Welcome to HEF....may be better to start your own thread, you'll get more hits and it's better not to muddy up the waters on the OP's questions.
