New to me dozer, wondering what type of oil should be in the transmission and final drives. 3 mechanics have told me 3 different things, to-4, 15w40, and straight 50 truck tranny oil. Stuff thats in it is super thin and the converter runs hot.

First snip from OMM shows factory fill which is TO30 Second snip from OMM shows recommendations based on ambient temp

That would be the equivalent of a TO-4, correct.?

Exceeds TO-4 spec, passes several additional Komatsu in-house tests. Since it exceeds TO-4 spec you can use it where TO-4 spec is called for, TO-4 spec does not meet KES 07.868.1. Does the Cat TDTO similar exceed the TO-4 spec? (KES) stands for Komatsu Engineering Standard

So for us old stupid ones, is TO-30 the same as SAE 30?

Yes sir, meets viscosity requirements of SAE 30.
