recently i had my gov off my pump and i think i may have upset the high idle. so just wondering what the factory set revs are for a 1980 8k with a aftercooler is. thanks bill
I think it's around 1400 Bill, someone with rack setting book will know but post your serial#. Later Bob
hi bob,ser is 77v15766. eng50v5600.we set it around 1250 but would like to get it right.
Will get exact speed tomorrow Bill. Later Bob
My edition of the Rack Setting Manual doesn't go that high on the s/n's but the late D8H's used 1405 rpm's as high idle speed. Don't know why the chose that extra 5 rpm's.....must have been the white shop coat boys again.
Just remember high idle isn't exact. It needs to be adjusted up or down when you adjust the Set Point. Set point is more critical than high idle to get the most power.
That's correct Lee and a discussion on how to check it would be nice to have here. Once the Set Point (full load + 20 RPM) is adjusted high idle should be right/within spec +/- 50 RPM. If not, too low, the governor spring is too strong or the the rack setting is too low. Too high of difference between set point and high idle the governor spring is too weak or the rack setting is too high. Another thing to look for on New Scroll systems is badly worn thrust washers and weight legs. The legs wear deep into the washers and increase friction making the governor less responsive to load changes. A new spring and thrust washer is better than opening the rack a quarter turn from an operators point of view and the proper thing to do. Later Bob
ok now iam little confused. is high idle full revs no load or full revs stalled out?
Bill, high idle in full throttle no load, low idle is low throttle no load. Torque stall is full throttle brakes on in third speed. Later Bob
thank's bob, i think the rack setting is good, so if i set the full throttle to around 1400 rpm be good?
Here are the speeds Bill, high idle 1400, full load 1300, torque stall 1100, low idle 475. Jot them down for future reference. You shouldn't have changed your rack setting changing the spring, the collar screw goes in a groove and should be as before. Later Bob
appreciate the info bob, thanks bill.
