I have a 2014 870G excavator that is acting up. It runs great for about 2 truckloads, then it acts like it’s bogging down and starts blowing some black smoke. If you let it sit and idle for a minute it comes back to life and runs like it should. On the monitor it shows it’s burning 26-26.5 gph when lifting a full bucket when it’s running right, with zero smoke. Then it will start smoking, and bogging down, and it shows it’s only burning 17-19 gph. We replaced all fuel filters and the electric pump, didn’t help. It is not deleted. It had been doing regens like it’s supposed to. It acts like it’s starved for fuel but it should be getting plenty. It isn’t throwing any codes. The deere mechanic is here now and put his laptop on it and he forced a regen and that didn’t help. He said fuel rail pressure was the same when burning 26 gph and running clean compared to bogging and smoking at 17gph, at 26xxx psi. Any ideas what could be going on? It acts like after you load two trucks in a row it starts to bog. Let it set idle for a minute and back to no smoke and lots of power!
Complete machine serial number? Did you go into the "Service Menu" to see if any codes are logged?
That sounds like fuel supply restriction.

We thought the same, that’s why we changed all 4 filters. Then we didn’t think little electric pump was working properly because the dealer said it should run all the time and ours wasn’t so we replaced it. Deere mechanic says not a fuel restriction because rail is the same. I’m not sure I agree with him.
I put serial number on here, yes went in and there were no codes whatsoever. Deere mechanic pulled pipe in front of dpf to see if it would replicate but it immediately derated and threw a code so it wouldn’t put enough fuel to it to even check that.
Regardless what the rail pressures are reading, I always check fuel supply pressure. If there is a restriction, it should show up on the rail actual/desired, but sometimes??? When checking low the fuel pressure system pressure, if there is a restriction in the tank or a line, that pressure will drop. Is it good for only 2 more loads, or good for the rest of the day?
No it was good for only 2 more loads. Ironically, Deere came back and checked injectors with his laptop and they checked out good. Tried to get it to replicate the issue today and it would not fail. Took it to an area where I could dig and worked it hard for a while and couldn’t get it to act up. Sent Deere guy home. Worked it hard for a few hours and no problems. I’m thinking at this point it had to be some kind of restriction in the tank that has broken up. Thanks for your time!
It’s a floater
