Gents, What size & make of dozer is appropriate for logging trail building/maintenance and some clearing work? Will be cleaning up old logging roads. Putting in some new woods roads/trails. Also likely will have to move some stumps around & do clean up work on patches where we are clearing out an acre or two of forest to put in fields. Don't need the biggest machine in the world. Not trying to set any records. Looking for a good balance between productivity, durability and maneuverability. Thanks,
If you aren't doing any real dirt work, I would recommend a 953.
For sure, an old track loader is a very handy farm machine especially if it has a 4 in 1 scoop up front and a ripper or winch hanging on the rear. A 953 would be ideal but there are several popular loaders out there. A loader will push over larger trees for its size, clear the trails, build your roads and load a truck too. As far as the dozer, a D4, D5, or even a D6. I depends on how serious you are about moving dirt and how much fuel you are willing to burn in a day. The larger the machine the more it cost to maintain and repair.
953 or a D5N Caterpillar
