Dt oil pump install

bulldog1164 ยท 2023-10-29 22:08

Does any body have any idea witch direction the washer in front of the oil pump goes? My service manual makes no mention of it. Smoked a oil pump and trying to figure out why. Thanks in advance

A little more info please-if pump is {smoked} what is the rest like? * How long did you smoke it for?

Which generation DT? Are you talking about the gerotor pump immediately behind the crank damper? If so , inspect your sump pipe. Particularly right at the point where the support bracket attaches to the pick up. It's common to see them crack right there. Additionally make sure the gasket for the sump to the gerotor inlet is not damaged. I'm assuming that this is a pump-line-nozzle engine. If it were a HEUI, the oil starvation should've shut it down before killing the oil pump.

It almost sounds as though someone was into it-then issues.

Assemble after over heat truck ran 1 a couple of day then no start replace pump and regulator assemble run two or three days same thing pulled f cover and inspected all parts replaced relief valve. New pump is fine just trying to see witch way the convex washer goes on the front of the oil pump. Thanks in advance

The center of the ring should be sandwiched in between the balancer and the driven gear. It is a slinger, not a washer and it keeps the front seal from being flooded with oil.

Is there a right and wrong way to install ?

Pointed end towards pump, flared end towards dampener. If you put it in backwards, the damper wouldn't bottom out on the driven gear, would it? Also, look on the slinger itself, there should be witness marks

Seems like it would bottom out either way. Looks like it's to keep oil from running out the splines of the crank. Marks are there just trying to cover all the bases. Thanks for the help, that makes sense. Very hard to find any info on this.
