What's out there for a value estimator on older equipment?

MachineryTrader.com. You can look look at both retail asking prices and most all the auction realized sale prices. It works in general terms. It means nothing to individual machines as condition is the real determiner of value.

thanks, i have followed that way before, but didn;t know if there was something more in line with a kbb type, used stuff can be all over the place, i just go by condition and hours.

I agree. In order to get an idea of what a specific piece of iron is I do what John suggested and take the average For Sale price without the high and low and the Auction price without high and low then average those two numbers. That will give you an idea of a price for an average age and hour machine.

Ritchie is dealing with Rouse now on equipment values. They are acting like they are using multiple data bases for a range and then tell you what they can sell it for. Problem is what they can sell it for may or will be different that what someone else can sell it for and it may be a whole lot different than what you or I might pay for it. None of them is a disinterested appraiser either so if you need an appraisal for an estate, divorce or IRS purpose or anything else involving a lawyer or a court they won't be interested in helping you.
