Came around a corner and here was this machine, the shot's where pretty hasty
that can be a very fun job and it can also be scary as hell. i have worked on top of gondola cars and flat beds, both are very tippy and you can find your self in alot of trouble very quickly.
Some were i saw a video of a guy loading a rubber tire backhoe on top of one of these cars just by using backhoe and outriggers
here it is http://www.herzogcompanies.com/rrservices/cartopper.php
not for me....
what part of it is not for you???? the back hoe or the excavator in the rail car
here check out this thread Deere 120C on Union Pacific Pete
This is interesting, I want to learn more. It looks to me like my machine could be a very useful tool in that application as well. I could quickly hop on and off those cars no problem, have a 27 ft reach, can lift over 12,000 pounds at 10 ft and 3,500 at 23 feet....
no he had a winch mounted on the front bucket to assist him
http://www.herzogcompanies.com/rrservices/mpm.php Check out this link and watch the video. They have a 228 Komatsu that is located on top of the gons. The undercarage is gone, and it has a set of RR wheels under it. The operator even controls the train with a remote! I watched this unit work last week and it is very cool!
Thank you Deeredriver! That is an amazing setup, and Herzog has about 20 of these MPM's with Rototilts. Each one does the job of 12 men! http://www.herzogcompanies.com/rrservices/mpm.php But they aren't the only ones doing this DM&E has one on a JD200 with thumb-bucket. Norfolk Southern has 4 or 5 Rototilts buildt on Doneli machines that MTM modified for railway maintenance. J&J has one on an O&K. Jim Dobbas is installing his second on a CAT320. Georgetown Rail has two on CAT's as well. There are also many in Europe & Canada.
